Valentine's Day Gift for HIM!

We agree with Real Simple, the compass keychain is the perfect gift for that guy in your life who you can't seem to find a gift for and is always somehow lost...even though he has a smartphone. Instead of giving him that long list of directions, present him with this!

Fashion tips from the Renaissance era

I think we can all agree that ladies and gentlemen of the Renaissance era knew fashion - I mean, take a look at this fancy lady wearing a bejeweled collar necklace as well as her very own First Knuckle Ring!

The Daily Beast's Misty White Sidell made us blush with her kind words, saying " In New York City, cool girls flock to the tiny Brooklyn jewelry store Catbird to snap up the boutique's own brand of Memory Rings, which it has produced in silver, rose and yellow gold since 2006."

We warmly welcome you, ladies, as First Knuckle Rings are something we absolutely adore. We love a single First Knuckle Ring worn on an other wise bare hand or stacked across each of your first knuckles or even just simply worn as a pinky ring. And oh boy, do we love them paired with a fancy manicure!

Dream Date: Amy Merrick

We're moving into our new offices today (YAY!!!), and in the midst of the mayhem, these images of our friend Amy Merrick's beautiful studio is providing both calm and inspiration. As are the pile of doughnuts on our new kitchen table.

Things I love: Meaghan

Meaghan (aka MER) is a seasoned catbirdette – she knows all the secret inner workings of the nest and makes sure things run smoothly around here. She's a bird that'll ease your stress and make you happy every time you see her.  When she's not working her magic, you'll find her at a show practically every day of the week or throwing a themed party with her big loving family.  Here are a few things she loves:

  • Six little munchkins who call me auntie Meg
  • A hand written note
  • Few things get my heart going like seeing concerts... my happy place
  • Pizza, I'd travel anywhere for a good slice of za
  • My big red scarf
  • Anything comfy and cozy; big sweaters, long johns, a soft tee
  • A good vinyl on a lazy sunday
  • Family, friends, and my boy clancy <3

Teeny, Tiny Rings!

For any ladies looking to make an understated statement with their jewels, you can learn a thing or two from Who What Wear's Fashion Director, Laurie Trott. She chose her top five teeny tiny rings, including our First Knuckle Rings!! A big thank you to Laurie for including our jewels and putting us in such beautiful company! xx coco

Hot wheels.

I'll have one of the above please. Thanks very much.

Skinny Rings

We were beyond excited to have the ladies of The Coveteur in last week. It made us majorly giggle to read their discussion on whether or not teeny, tiny, skinny rings made their fingers look fat. To clarify: NO, those skinny rings totally do not make your fingers look fat!

We are super into skinny rings, in fact, we fully believe, dainty is the new black! So keep them small and stack them up!

Cygnus, bird of my dreams.

Swans bob languidly in the water lily laden ponds of my imagination. Thanks to our very own Coco for sharing this image with me - it's making my mind's eye all the richer.

A soft-spoken lady

Soft-spoken. Barely There. Thin as a needle. We couldn't have described our Threadbares any better and we blushed reading each of the kind words from The Cut!

We absolutely love wearing our Threadbares all alone, in a delicate stack, or as a First Knuckle Ring.

Threadbare in Yellow Gold, $44. Threadbare in Rose Gold, $44.

Dream Date: A Dude. THE Dude. Not Lebowski, though.

A departure from our usual lady Dream Dates, cause baby, it's cold outside, but it's probably very warm and toasty in that tub with STEVE McQUEEN.

Ouch, I got crabs!

Eeew, where's your head at?! No, I mean these darling little red claw crabs. They are named Crabby and Patty (obvs I totally love Sponge Bob). Crabby likes bubbles, peas and adventures all around the tank. The first night I found him sleeping in the filter. It was SO cute and I totally didn't take a picture.
I know, so dumb. Patty is more of an introvert. She hides back behind the log, under the filter, behind the bubbler, basically anywhere where you can't find her to drive you crazy. They warn you that they are escape artist, so I am always worried Dewey, my huge fatty cat, has had a 4 star meal.  Lucky for you, I caught this super cute video of Patty noshing on her log.

I die.
You can tell the difference between them because Patty is a little smaller. Crabby picks on her all the time. Just FYI, you can tell a male from a female by their claws. The males will have bigger more predominant claws. I am pretty sure both my crabs are actually boys, but I like to refer to them as a girl boy couple because it's much funnier.
In the midst of all this crabtastic excitement this little ditty arrives in the mail for me! A congrats on the crabby babies from Rony. Obsessed. I immediately banished my boring Ikea mug.

This is Crabby. They do this kind of stuff everyday!  It's endless. Maybe someday I can pack them up in a traveler and bring them to the store. They need memory rings!

Crabbily yours,
Candice (Jewelry Studio Manager)

Rosie, our sweet Australian transplant has curated the most dreamy selection of things she loves.  When she's not smiling in the shop wrapped in her custom suede shawl, you can find her writing or cutting a rug (we hear she won a dance-off in Australia once. We're talking two people, one winner).  Here are a few things she loves:

How We Wear It: Ear Cuffs

In light of all of the exciting 90's-esque news this morning (we're talking to you JT & Destiny's Child), we are also happily bringing the 90's back with our brand spankin' new Ear Cuffs!

As you can tell, a lot of us birds are wearing them with our classic Chained to my Heart Earrings. Some of us like to wear them alone or with a stud snuggled up real close but most of all, we are loving the look of them doubled up!!

14k Yellow Gold Ear Cuff, $78. 14k Rose Gold Ear Cuff, $78. Sterling Silver Ear Cuff, $38.

Here's to bringing the 90's back - we couldn't be more excited! xx coco

Grrrrrr.

I'm a little mad at how much I love this outfit.

I Call Time Out - Lets Get Personal!

We like making things personal around here because what makes something more special than adding a little note?

Bittersweets does some of the cutest stamping on her famously popular Pinky Club Ring, $175. You can have anything you would like stamped into it (up to ten letters included in the price) and believe me, each time you see the note on your hand it is sure to make you smile.

Flotsam and Jetsam Love Note Locket, $150, available in store, can not only be inscribe with a special year it also includes a teensy scroll for you to write a secret Love Note (a sure way into your lovers heart forever).

Thanks Refinery!

We are pretty thrilled to be in a category of BOLD and this Blanca Monrós Gómez Diamond Filigree Necklace is certainly that. This lady is a true thing of sparkling (sexy!) beauty and in my opinion, she would be delighted to join any outfit. xx coco

Desert Sharks new EP!

We feel pretty lucky to have a flock of pretty incredibly amazing birds, one the them being Steph G who you will often find trotting around the shop in a high pony accompanied with some hot shorts and the biggest, sincerest smile! But when she's not helping our customers build their dream stacks she is one of the mega babes known as Desert Sharks!

We've got pretty exciting news about these ladies, they just released their new EP, Sister Cousins, which you can listen to and download here. They are also currently pressing it on vinyl (could they get any cooler?), slated for this upcoming March! AND they're playing a release show this Thursday, January 10, at Shea Stadium

If you can't make it to their show be sure to check them out below recording their track "I Know What I Want" at Converse Rubber Tracks Studio.

Things I love – Correy

We start celebrating holidays early here around here in case no one has noticed.  Thanksgiving happened in our minds the week after Halloween and Christmas was over by the first week in December.  So naturally it's time to start celebrating the day of St. Valentine.

So we got to talking about Valentine's Day and the idea of love and the different kinds of love.  Great love stories, famous lovers, what it's like to be in love, degrees of love, loving someone or something, and to be in love with an idea.

Since we are so lucky to work with a group of eclectic, passionate ladies (and one gentleman!) we had everyone gather a list of things that they love.  And now we will share them with you, one by one.
It's full of wonderful people, places, ideas, and (some catbird) things we love in this world.

If you follow our various social media outlets, you will know Correy from her daily instagram posts, tweets, and facebook status updates.  She wears many hats around here but most of you will recognize her keeping us in good conversations on the interweb.  She loves wearing oversized sweaters, clogs, and lipstick.  And she looooves dogs!  I could go on and on.  Here are a few more things that Correy loves (in her own words).

Stay tuned for more love-ly-ness from the birds!

Dream Date: Rodarte

I could wax long and poetic about Kate and Laura Mulleavy, the sisters behind Rodarte, but I've just had a large piece of Julia's birthday ice cream cake, and the sugar is making me a bit bonkers. So, in brief: 1. I love that Rodarte is run by siblings. 2. I love that Rodarte is run by siblings who fuel their rockets with childhood secrets and obsessions, memories as thick and gnarled as their cobweb knit stockings. 3. I ate too much Carvel ice cream cake, a madeleine of childhood, and unlike the Mulleavy sisters who turn their madeleines into gold, I have turned mine into a rambling blog post.
