Graphic Design Internship at Catbird!

We're looking for a person of able body, mind, and skillz for a graphic design internship. Internship would entail creating weekly collages for our homepage. Internship starts slow & steady, but there's lots of potential if you are our soul mate. Click here for details.

Dear Miss Lonelyhearts,

I read about you the other day at Scout Holiday. I even entered to win a bag from you. I'm really into this Bette Davis Eyes sweatshirt. I'm a big fan of Ms. Davis. I also really enjoy that you encourage your customers to visit your retail and restaurateur neighbors. Community is a beautiful thing. We have to build our own little love pockets in this big city of yours. Anyhow, I'm real pleased to meet you.

Ode to a Simple Thing

Katrina LaPenne's simple twisted band in white gold make my hand blush. It is quiet perfection, and has quickly become one of my favorite bands in the store.

That's No Way To Say Goodbye

{{ Leonard Cohen video deleted, due to how it won't stop. }}

It's pretty likely that I was steps away from this very concert in Jersulam, but having just been born not too long before, I wasn't invited to the party. So sad. Certainly even at the tender age of two I would have deeply appreciated not only the poetry of the song, but also the beautiful hush before he sings, right after the (very Israeli) chanting.

I post this because I am off on a short vacation to Montreal, and will be mere steps away from L.C. once again.

Adieu!

Lady of the Lake

I met Rose an age ago- we were freshman at the National Stationery Show together. Now we're old paper grizzly bears, been around the block once or twice, and we're looking to take a calligraphy class together from a little old lady teacher. Know of one? We got her line, The Great Lakes Goods, in the shop today. It's got the perfect blend of sweetness and wackadoodleness. I might be spelling wackadoodleness incorrectly.

Spirit Guide

My beautiful friend Kamara, of Earl Greyhound, wore a demure little pair of feather earrings from Catbird, to play the Siren Festival on Saturday. I don't know about you, but I wish there was just a little more color in these photos.

more feather earrings in shop, $32-48

Gracias Species Mag!

I wish I knew what these fine folks at Species Magazine were saying about us. I will assume it's all good. I am not even sure what country they hail from - it didn't say on their CONTACTO page.

Muchas gracias to Maria Elena via Facebook for letting me know!

A rare rabbi.

Part 2 of our Rare Clergy series - Rabbi Shmuly. Evidence? Cloven Hoof's latest lookbook. My heart went thud-thud when I saw this image. I needed to know more. I sent a telegram to the platinum-blonde Miss Cloven Hoof in search of details. Miss Cloven Hoof replied,

He's..the only Rabbi on the planet that wears hi-top Converse with Tupac's face printed on them to Synagogue, and I'd venture to guess, the only Rabbi who wears Cloven Hoof. He's pretty awesome.

Case closed.

A strange monk.

This cloaked fellow came in. He had a heart with a crown of thorns embroidered onto said cloak, resembling many tattoos we see at the shop. We could make neither heads nor tails of him.

Dear Sofia Coppola,

I am totally totally interested in what you are up to.

Classic bands.

New at catbird - classic wedding bands. Maybe like the ones your parents wear. Maybe not. You don't have to be like this guy, although you certainly can be, and we support you.

Available in many widths and styles, polished and shiny, white, rose and yellow gold. Engraved, or not. Prices start at $210. In store now, on line soon.

K is for Kiss.

Beautiful, letterpressed, Victorian kisses. For you and you and most especially... you. In store now, $22

Enamel Flower Rings

How cute and happy are these honkin' enamel flower rings? So summery. Other styles also in store now, $28-48.

Looks like I needed to go to the pharmacy that day. (First Knuckle Ring in gold here.)

Air plants.

Look at these lovely Bromeliads, each with its own interesting personality, nestled in hunks of amethyst. They really take my breath away. A merger of nature - one breathing, one beautiful. It's a day to think of old friends I guess. These too remind me of someone who will need to have one of these, very soon. In store now, $28

This card

Reminds me a lot of an old friend.

Jaws!

Amy Merrick's continuously brilliant "Living In" column on design*sponge features the movie Jaws which still scares me to my soul, as well as the Moss Mills Mussel Locket, which is not at all frightening.

Condé Nast Traveller iPhone App with us, Catbird!

Yeah, it's true: we're petite, off-beat, subtle. Thanks to Condé Nast for including us!

Monday, the saddest day of the week

We're pretty obsessed with Williamsburg's cutest, most delicious couple: the Clean Slate and the Cucumber Cooler at Saltie. See you there tomorrow!

Putting the kitten in Catbird

Loyal customer and the she behind of one of favorite blogs, TeenAngster, sent us these photos of her kittens, Bug and Dagmar, playing hide-and-go-seek in a Catbird bag. I really hope that Bug and Dagmar come visit and meet Teepee one day and we all play with jewelry and drink milkshakes together. Teepee loves cats.

Our Guest Post, Posted

Leigh and I (mostly Leigh) collaborated on a post for East Side Bride. Here's Part I:

In Which Catbird Presents a selection of Baubles for Famous Lovers:

Salvador Dali & Federico Garcia Lorca
Did they? Didn't they? Let the tongues wag. For Federico, a necklace vaguely in the form of Salvador's moustache, and for Salvador, a ruby ring in honor of Garcia Lorca's Blood Wedding.

Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton
Far be it for us to suggest a bauble for Mrs. White Diamonds herself. Rather, the decanter set from Love & Victory, makes for neat drinking, and easy glass hurling.

Clara Rockmore & Léon Theremin
Léon's muse, and unrequited love, played his namesake instrument, with grace, drama, and a perfect chignon of pitch black hair. Of making otherworldy music rise from a brass box outfitted with a rod and a ring she said, “You have to play with butterfly wings."
Bittersweets Black Diamond Twig Ring

Frida Kahlo & Diego Rivera
Love is true, love is trouble. She was pint-sized, he was not.  She was a painter, he was a painter. He loved ladies, she loved ladies. Twice-married, they brawled, battled, left and came together again in a blue house in Coyoacán.
Elisa Solomon Ombre Ring

Bob Dylan & Suze Rotolo
You sweethearts! You young romantics! You read Rimbaud in the park, and rambled round the streets of Greenwich village. The world was your oyster.
Carla Caruso Willow Ring
