Hello perfect gift!

I can literally count six people I would give these perfect little notebooks to. Easy, pretty and useful - the trifecta of gift giving.

What We Love Today: Getting Sh*t Done!

I procrastinate just as much as the next guy. Maybe even more. But lately I am flying through my to-do list and emptying my inbox. Maybe it's a memory of past springs causing me to be more efficient so I can... go out and ride my bike with my friends? Or... maybe it's my brand new awesome memo pad from Rifle!

What We Love Today: CHEESE!!

Holy lord do I love cheese. This card really doesn't make much sense to me but I still am crazy about it.

More Gin.

Is it too early to ask for more gin now?

Mr. Boddington's Studio More Gin Holiday Card Set, $25

Call the bobbies!

Regarde! I love a heist movie, a good mystery and a clever design - this here new calendar is the perfect union of all three. In the endlessly appealing style of Mr. Boddington's Studio.

Hello 2012!

It's not even Halloween but we just couldn't wait another second to show you the new Wild Unknown calendars. You'll need a way to soothe your soul this election year.

The beautiful art is mysteriously matched with lyrics from all sorts of music icons, Bob (Dylan and Marley), Yoko, Van Halen, Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, etc. One of our perennial best sellers. In three styles: Birds & Bunnies, Flowers & Feathers and Kittens.

Niceties

Finally, linens fit for the laundry-hater. Or, for the party-thrower who lives in Brooklyn and doesn't want their food encrusted table linens sitting in the laundry basket until they haul it to the laundromat, hungover and wearing an evening gown (read: last stitch of clean clothing). Also makes a stellar gift.

pads of 50 disposable placemats, $22, multiple patterns available in store

My favorite graduation card.

I crack up whenever I think about giving this to a new grad. By the inimitable Maira Kalman. In store and on line. $4.95

Strange bedfellows

I like to imagine Mrs. Mandelbaum and Mrs. Lipski running into this fine gentleman on their evening stroll. Perhaps they'd enjoy a nightcap and some talk about the good old times, in a smoky, forgotten piano bar.

Maira Kalman Evening Stroll card, $4.95
John Derian gentleman paperweight, $30

Dear Maira Kalman,

My love for Maira Kalman is well documented. I almost wept when I missed her at my local bookstore. I really had to control myself when we happened upon her new line of cards. Play it cool Rony...play it cool. (I totally did NOT play it cool.) Now they are here for us all to amuse ourselves and enjoy.

The above is my favorite, although I must disagree. I love a Deluxe Grilled Cheese.

Maira Kalman Cards, $4.95 (in store and on line)

What We Love Today: Natural History of Birds blank book

One day, the world will want to know what you thought of it. Start scribbling, now. New year demands a bit of introspection.

Natural history of birds blank book, $12

Goodnight stars, goodnight air

I guess living in a city the night sky is fairly nonexistent star wise, so to make up for it I cut them out from pieces of paper. I've always seen the night sky as this big black curtain and the stars are just holes in it. -Rob Ryan, from an interview with AnOther Magazine

Shining Stars card, Rob Ryan, $3.95 in store and online

What We Love Today: Rob Ryan Love Poem

Can we shall we? One day, very soon, let us go away together... A frame-able card, from the master of cut paper. One of our favorite, and best selling cards. Rob Ryan Cards, $3.95

Lady of the Lake

I met Rose an age ago- we were freshman at the National Stationery Show together. Now we're old paper grizzly bears, been around the block once or twice, and we're looking to take a calligraphy class together from a little old lady teacher. Know of one? We got her line, The Great Lakes Goods, in the shop today. It's got the perfect blend of sweetness and wackadoodleness. I might be spelling wackadoodleness incorrectly.

K is for Kiss.

Beautiful, letterpressed, Victorian kisses. For you and you and most especially... you. In store now, $22

These old business and calling cards have rendered me speechless. Whispering Ticket? What could that MEAN!?? Also, cheese + graph paper. Together at last. Sigh.

IMG_1295
Claire, one of out newest Catbirds, got crafty with the new Japanese Rice Paper Tape. Pretty nifty, eh? I never thought I could love tape so much. What did I ever do before it? Thank goodness the tape ambivalence has ended. PHEW.
