Met Ball (not Meatball)

Despite the fact that none of us (what!!?) were at the Met Gala last night, we feel pretty connected to it since lavender-haired Nicole Richie was wearing Catbird there. Plus some serious side boob.

A Moment in Time

Holy smooookes how gorgeous is Anjelica Houston? I mean, seriously.

GLAMOUR happens when somebody with great personal taste is very much at EASE with [him- or herself] and with what they’re wearing, without social pretense.

What We Love Today: Old Glamour Mixed with New

Last night I had the privilege of seeing Woody Allen and his Dixieland band at The Carlyle. It was delightfully fancy and quite thrilling - but I think the star of the show might have been the hotel itself.

Dorothy Draper (no relation to Don) knew a thing or two about glamour. And shininess!

Was this fine gentleman in The Shining?

A detail from the mural in Bemelmans Bar (by Ludwig Bemelman, of Madeline fame).

I wish I had a big, sparkly, glamorous necklace to wear to suit the occasion. This Lady Grey Triple Vex piece would have done nicely.

Thank you Who What Wear!

"Catbird Baguette Ring ($320) in Diamond
The Classicist isn't one to load on the statement jewelry. Instead, she appreciates dainty baubles. Cue Catbird's Baguette Ring. The delicate 14-karat gold band is subtle enough for everyday wear, plus the baguette-cut diamond adds a touch of glamour."

We couldn't have said it better ourselves!  Thank you, Who What Wear for including our Diamond Baguette, $320, in this beautiful Gift Guide.

New designer: Ila & I

We have been eyeing Ila's beautiful wares for years and finally decided it was time to take the plunge. She takes traditional designs and puts enough of a spin on them to make them discreetly luxurious and just a bit more dramatic. So very beautiful.

See here for Ila&I.

Star Struck

I have had this photo on my desktop forever, and I just today realized it is one of our customers. I won't say who. Photo by Courtney Brooke.

(She's not actually wearing these earrings, but you can.)

Glittery eyes.

So, Little Miss Makeup created this tutorial for glitter eyes. I need an event to go to! (Turn your volume off before playing. Eeesh!)

Sneak peek at the renovation!

True fact: the chandelier is from Elizabeth Arden's walk-in closet.
2 AM shot, while we were still working. Note the beautiful Hefty bag.
We re-opened this Saturday! We are feeling so great about the super snazzy new space, and our lovely customers seemed to feel the same way. Please come by and say Hi!

p.s. Mark your calendars: we'll be having a little cocktail party on Tuesday April 12th, from 4 to 7 that will be sponsored by Pernod Absinthe. Details to come.

We are Closed for Renovations!

Two pictures from our Inspiration File for the super-sexy renovation, which started today. We're suuuuuper excited. Can not wait to share it with you all.

(Web orders are still being filled. We plan to reopen around March 25th.)

Local Birds pt. 2

Here's Abbey Lee, neighborhood gal and a polite and lovely visitor to 219 Bedford, looking completely resplendent in yesterday's Chanel couture show.

Halloween Grinch

I'm such a grouch about Halloween. I really really don't like wearing costumes. And, sadly, I am way too literal to wear the above. What if someone asked me what I was - what would I say!!? A frothy, ghost bat?

It may be time to reconsider.

Yes, that's right. Leigh and I were in a booth with none other than Iris Apfel. She looked exactly like Iris Apfel.

Gold & Gunmetal

This past winter we carried Whiting & Davis bags in the store, and online. I unearthed my grandmother's Whiting & Davis bag in my closet at my mother's house, in the original box. Unwrapping the tissue paper I had a gorgeous synchronicity and a cross-cosmos moment with my grandmother, née Gilda May Tandy , the Brooklyn girl with a name that makes me think magnolias and sweet tea. Sweet she.

Not Your Average Wedding Invites

Leigh is making beautiful, custom wedding invitations and I am working on a way to get married again to have her design my invites. They are just the right amount of mysterious - not enough to scare Aunt Zelda, but enough to get people REALLY excited.

See more of her work here and/or email her directly with custom queries.

Moroccan Glasses.

We're on a real Moroccan kick as of late. Kick back and relax on a Moroccan pouf while sipping some sweet mint tea from a Moroccan glass. Or store your toothbrushes (or tooth-bri, as we call them in my house) in one of these bright glasses. They un-drearify any bathroom.

Tilda Swinton as Marchesa Luisa Casati

"Nude servants, gilded in gold leaf, attended her. Bizarre wax mannequins sat as guests at her dining table, some of them even rumored to contain the ashes of past lovers. She wore live snakes as jewelery and was infamous for her evening strolls, naked beneath her furs, while parading cheetahs on diamond-studded leashes.

She was tall and thin. A thick blaze of flame-colored hair crowned her pale, almost cadaverously white face with its sensually vermilioned lips. Above all, however, the Marchesa’s large green eyes cast the strongest spell of her unique beauty. She exaggerated these further still with immense false lashes and surrounding rings of black kohl, while droplets of poisonous belladonna made them glitter like emeralds."
