Stop it, Madewell.

This army jacket will go SO well with all my other army jackets. Ugh Madewell. You've really got my number.
-Rony

Dear Miss Lonelyhearts,

I read about you the other day at Scout Holiday. I even entered to win a bag from you. I'm really into this Bette Davis Eyes sweatshirt. I'm a big fan of Ms. Davis. I also really enjoy that you encourage your customers to visit your retail and restaurateur neighbors. Community is a beautiful thing. We have to build our own little love pockets in this big city of yours. Anyhow, I'm real pleased to meet you.

dace. (oh canada.)

DACE Spring 2010 from Dace on Vimeo.

Back when I had a clothing store I carried this beautiful, hard-to-find Canadian clothing line called Dace. They were always so nice (Canadians. What do you expect?) and their clothes...their clothes. Deceptively simple, beautiful fabrics and construction, and an effortless cool that is hard to achieve and therefore not seen too often.

I really love this video they created for their look book.

party dresses.

Got a party to attend? Or perhaps you're feeling a tad fancy? Check out these two sweet, new party dresses just in. (The top one has the extra bonus of being appropriate for any season.)

i love him.

I don't know who he is except for these facts:
1. that is his sister
2. the picture is from 1972
3. he died shortly after this picture was taken

(via east side bride)

(After not much digging around, I found out that this is a heart wrenching story. I don't know anyone involved but my heart aches for them.)

mink pink.

Here is just a tiny teaser taste of the new stuff from Mink Pink, our favorite new line out of Australia. (Which, by the way, looks like the most annoying movie ever, if you ask me.)

The jacket? Ziggy Stardust makes out, okay shakes hands with, a young-ish Michael Jackson. $86. The dress? Lady Chatterly makes a Very Special Appearance on Dallas. $80. And I swear - no one will ever know. Unless you tell them - which you should.

(These items, already at the MOST recession-busting prices, are still on sale thru this weekend.)

this just in.

Lorick, designed by Abigail Lorick. The line is jaw dropping. It has a timeless, elegant, sophisticated feel but with an unmistakable edge. (The line has something to do with Gossip Girl but I am not sure what, as I am over the age of 30. I think I am actually not allowed to watch it.) My favorite dress makes me think of Mad Men. Maybe something Betty Draper would wear to a cocktail party.

(The Internerd tells me this: Blair's mother's fashion line, Waldorf Designs, is in fact a real collection called Lorick designed by Abigail Lorick. So there ya go.)

new fall looks.

MinkPink white blouse with black bow

Dace hanky blouse
Kyumi navy wool high waist A-line skirt

Ali Ra green scooter dress
Lily+Jae Navy Bedford Coat

Kyumi silk blouse with tie

Fall clothes are just irresistible.
We also have some great new knee socks to ratchet it up a notch or two. Come see.

Q is for Quail.

More new stuff on the way from Quail. Take a gander. Really great, interesting constructions, Easy flattering style. Cool and very affordable. (Everything falls well under $200.)

new stuff!

We were sooooo smart this year and the items coming in are just right for late summer/early fall. Are you ready for huge bulky coats and sweaters right now? Neither am I. But how about these amaaaaazing, sheer, thin cashmere leggings? I mean really, in this age of gilded lilies, why on earth are you not wearing cashmere leggings?

This Saja dress - and this general trend - is blogged about rather eloquently here. It is gorgeous, refined and cool - and surprisingly easy to wear. Much easier to wear than you are probably thinking right now.

Okay. Look. This dress by T Lux -in the window right now - has a modern ROOSTER print. Yeah. You heard me. Roosters. It's being worn by our lovely armless model with a great, cardigan vest by LAMade, who, lucky for us, ventured into the world of extremely affordable sweaters. Featured in the foreground is quite the jaunty fedora. Seriously, there is no reason you should not be stylin' to the max this Fall.

fall. but just a little.

Fall stuff has started coming in and we are excited! Summer, it was nice knowing ya but we're done, thanks. No offense. We try our darnedest to push it so Fall stuff comes in as late as possible (this is actually really hard as the seasons dictated by the fashion industry have little relation to the weather outside - for example, according to clothes, Spring starts in January). The Rite Aid on my corner was proudly showing candy corn - CANDY CORN!! - at the end of July! We don't roll like that.

Anyway - the stuff coming in you could easily wear right now and keep wearing into Fall. Por ejemplo:

Super sweet silk blouse by Penguin. You could wear it now or layered when it gets cooler. (When is that again?)

You'll have to trust me on this, but the print on this top is FOXES. That's right. For extra foxiness. In case anyone had any doubts.

More stuff coming in regularly. Stay tuned.

john derian

If you think you missed out, you'd be wrong! There's tons of great stuff still to be had. Fancy dresses for those upcoming weddings, butt-huggin' jeans, cotton tanks (not sure if you noticed but it's HOT)... we're bringing new stuff out regularly so make sure to come by soon!

ALSO - and this is big news to a lot of you out there - for the first time ever select John Derian plates on sale. Really amazing pieces. (This is a rare occurence.)

SAAAALE!

super awesome sale starts today! heavily advertised as starting tomorrow but special peeps get in a day early ... score 20-75% off hard-to-find pieces from orla. j.brand, trovata, anna sui, corey lynn calter.... and we will bringing more and more stuff out all the time...

i love this dress.

This dress is by Bow and Arrow, one of our favorite new designers. If Jackie O worked in a cafeteria, this is what she would be sporting. And it has pockets, for your extra hair net.

jean pool.

Did you know that we are JEAN-iuses? For real. We take our jeans super seriously. We do not fall prey to stupid trends (only ones that make at least a little sense), and we spend a LOT of time and effort stocking styles, sizes and washes that will make you happy.

We tend to stay away from a lot of fading, sanding, whiskering and deliberate holes and rips and veer more towards clean washes. Low rises are sort of at the bottom of the list (although hard to avoid) but we stock as many mid and high rises as we can. And - and this is important here folks - we order FULL SIZE RUNS. Meaning we always get 29s, 30s, 31s and sometimes 32s when we can. We sell out of these sizes fast but we always order them!

When we go to showrooms we don't just get what the reps tell us are their "number ones". We inspect, feel, try on and really think about YOU - coming into the store looking for the perfect jeans. The shop is small - but even if it wasn't, there is no need to overwhelm you with all the choices out there in the world. We edit it for you. Only the best. The coolest. Cuz what's better than the perfect pair of jeans?

Come in and pick our brains. We're ready.

Some denim lines we carry: found, j.brand, deener, del forte, wrangler, jordache, level99, blank, odyn, and coming soon, corpus.
