Digby and Iona necklace, $360
Do not leave your headphones on whilst being attended to in a shop. It is so very VERY upsetting to the shopgirl who is helping you. It matters not if they are your iPhone ear buds, or if your music is off, or if you have removed one 1/2 of the pair from an ear so that you may hear us while still listening to the soundtrack of your life. What would your mother think? She's okay with the tattoos, and the non-traditional career path, but she'd be appalled to see you weren't minding your manners.

In my quest for Holiday Spirit, I could take a cue or two from The Cherry Blossom Girl and her friends. Is everything in France instantly imbued with the perfect melange of style and spirit? I bet there's not even a filter on this camera.

Get the spirit. Quick!

Somehow, despite amazingly wonderful customers (in store and on line), a mind-boggingly fantastic Team Catbird and the beautiful snow, I'm still trying desperately to get some holiday spirit. Between sick kids, web woes and no exercise, it's an uphill battle. I'm hoping it befalls me soon, and I hope everyone else is in high flying spirits. (This little guys is kinda helping me a bit.)

Heart in Hand Bottle Openers, $12 and Bird Boxes $19
Perfect little office gifts, stocking stuffers, friend prez, new boyfriend's family's Secret Santa, etc, etc, etc. The birds look particularly fetching with a silk bow tied around their bellies. Silk bow courtesy of us, of course.

Thomas Paul dolls, $24-28
I dreamt crazy, psychedelic dreams about the store last night. We've been having some crazy, psychedelic days in the store, too: yesterday's highlight was a very civilized showdown over the last of a certain ornament style. Fear not: we've still got amazing, giant (and wee) mercury glass balls bobbing all over the place. Come one, come all to the Catbird circus, where we promise to send you home with holiday shopping conquered and a magic candy in your pocket.

What?? A sale at Catbird? Nu-uh. One of our all-time best selling pieces, the Digby & Iona Crown Key necklace, is now on sale at 25% off. (We never have sales, this was a holiday collaboration between Catbird & Digby.)
This necklace has been featured in countless magazines and looks great on everyone, whether they tend towards subtle and refined, or bold and out-there. This deal is only available for a limited amount of necklaces. Sale is on line only.

It feels pretty darned great to get the above photo, titled "it's_true_all_the_coolest
_girls_shop_catbird.jpg", from a really special customer. But really, we're only "cool" cause of you. We've got amazing customers in our real life little shop on Bedford Avenue, and now we've got all of you in this intergalactic world, too. Gosh, this internet thing is grand.

Earlier this week I got an email from a customer who had just received her Alphabet Stud Earrings. She got two Ls and was asking if we have them in capital, instead of lower case. Prickly business owner that I am, I blithely pointed out that they are all lower case as it clearly explains on the product's page. But of course, if she was not happy with them we would be glad to take them back...
Her response: "Thank you..they are precious....my husband just died and I wanted to put his initials in my ear..this will be fine."
My response: Burst into tears.
Lesson to be learned: We never know what is going on inside someone. Always take the kind, patient and understanding path. Or at least try to.

I was pretty darn chuffed to see this write up on design*sponge about my favorite holiday cards. I came across these cards two years ago and was blown away at the authenticity of them. This kind of vintage can only be real vintage - you know instantly that they are not reproductions. (The designer, Walter Erhard, was one of the head designer's for Vera scarves which you might remember from your grandmother's closet.)

Our favorite calendar ever, (made in Brooklyn, bien sur), is in today's Daily Candy Everywhere Edition. The drawings are sublime and the matching of the lyrics...well, it's almost too much for words. We hope you love it as much as we do. (We now offer $5 shipping if you are only buying paper products!)
Our #1 gift.

Assorted Ornaments, $5-$22
The store is awash in a soft, floaty feathers and gobs of shining and slightly decrepit looking mercury glass. It's a great combination. I really think Leigh and I did a bang up job editing our ornament selection - I would hang any of these in my house year round. How amazing would the floating feathers look hanging in a kitchen or a bathroom window? The mercury glass ones are satisfyingly huge and would do wonders to a bedroom.
