feist is cooler than most.

If you don't have a reason to watch Sesame Street, you probably missed this bit of brilliance. Most likely you remember how great Sesame Street was. You will be pleased to know that not only is it still great - they manage to keep it fresh, interesting and funny. I particularly loved this clip. Feist, penguins, the number 4...good stuff. She is just so darn cute.

(Not much retail blogging these days as I am regrouping, spending time with the chickens and ...i guess taking a little break.)

spring is...not here.

Yesterday's unseasonably warm weather - 65 and breezy - gave us more than a tiny taste of Spring. It was a huge mouthful. I instantly started thinking about flip flops and wondering where to store my sweaters and boots. (I am quickly fooled when it comes to weather.) But alas, it is still only December and it was all a Big Fat Lie. *sigh*

pretty in pink.

Confession time.

I have a girly streak a mile wide, but (perhaps luckily?) I lack the avenue to express it. We have a small apartment in which we cram two grown-ups, two kids and one jumbo cat. My husband - a man of very exacting and specific taste - tends towards big bold art, Modern pieces, olive greens, and a clean sensibility (few of which can be achieved in our space - although we manage some).

So...back to my girly streak. Where does it go? How do I vent it? I don't. But, if I were to truly let loose, it might looks something like this. Pinks, flowers, tea pots, petits fours, pinafores, enamelware, embroidered chinese slippers...I love it all.

All work is the brilliant styling of Camille Soulayrol.

hee-larious.

We all know and love Cute Overlord (sic), so who would ever dream that we needed an antidote to it? Well, this guy or gal saw the need and brilliantly filled the niche. (I think my fave is the moose entry.)

(Speaking of overloads, the holidays have left me in retail overload, so you won't see much retail blogging from me for the next few days. A HUGE thanks to all the amazing customers who came in this season and asked about stuff they saw posted on the blog. It's inspiring.)

berg to the dorf.

I haven't left my house for a few days, having fallen victim to a rather horrendous stomach bug that's flying round the city with amazing strength and speed (if you get it, fret not - it sucks, but goes quickly). Here are some pics of the heavily, and deservedly, lauded Bergdorf Goodman's windows. UH-mazing. I plan on dragging my l'il chickens to see them next week.

trunk show tonight!

i love him.

I don't know who he is except for these facts:
1. that is his sister
2. the picture is from 1972
3. he died shortly after this picture was taken

(via east side bride)

(After not much digging around, I found out that this is a heart wrenching story. I don't know anyone involved but my heart aches for them.)

oh so pretty.

Two super sweet pieces from St. Kilda. (Extra bonus: St. Kilda uses only conflict free diamonds and recycled gold and silver.)

for the math geek.

This necklace - a tiny abacus with moving parts! - is going to make someone SO happy. By Poupette.

trunk show tonight!

Aaron of Digby & Iona will be revealing some of his new tricks tonight at our 2nd Holiday Trunk Show (Thursday 12/11). Above is a sneaky peek at his new collection.

The mind-blowingly talented Yayoi Forest will also be showing her wares. She somehow manages to make pieces that are remarkably cool and feminine - a tough thing to pull off. Come be festive and join us for wine, cookies and pretty, sparkly things.

(Get 10% off your entire purchase during the event. 5-8 @ 219 Bedford Ave.)

These just in! Such great wife gifts. "What is a wife gift?", you ask? Well, you want it to be simple, yet special. Solid gold is good since you don't ever have to take it off. Solid gold can also be handed down through generations. Timeless, graceful, classic - but still special and meaningful. This new line by Joanna Lingnau fits the bill perfectly and won't break the bank. Available only at catbird.

A portion of J.Lingnau profits are donated to organizations that support the environmental restoration of diamond mines in Sierra Leone.

bird boxes.

Look at these sweet little bird boxes. They have pretty green jewel eyes. And they're only $19! Scoop one up for that person that's going to give you an unexpected present. Happens every year.

This just in: Draugsvold jewelry. Big, bold and sparkly pieces, mostly made from vintage findings. They have a faded glamour, tarnished glory feel that I think is perfect. As if you inherited it from your eccentric great aunt who has lived in the West Village since 1953. Also just the trick to liven up a simple dress for a fancy party.

interview with a vardi.

Marichelle at Heart Handmade did an interview with me. In it I reveal the truth about Angelina and Jen. It's the must read of the holiday season.

obsession.

So these have nothing to do with jewelry or really anything else we sell, but i thought they were too great to pass up.

A handsome couple was looking at these in the store yesterday and I overheard the dude telling his lady that Calvin Klein would give his assistants a Pantone chip representing his ideal color of coffee. There's some Obsession for you.

time waits for no one.

These just in: necklaces made from vintage watches. Some are big and sort of pocket watch like, some are smaller and more necklace-y. I lurv them.

Now, you may look at them and say "I could make those". Maybe you could (if you can solder jump rings and scour the earth/web for cool old watches). But here's the real question: Will you? I won't. So I bought one of these and I am wearing it right now, and it looks really nice. Yup.

cooookies.

Turns out trunks shows are fun AND delicious! Thanks to the super sweet and gracious Elisa Solomon (and her mom!) for showing her wares.

gettin' festive.

I love Christmas ornaments. I don't think it matters what you celebrate or don't celebrate - they are just so pretty. These are just a few of the ones we have in the Bedford store right now. (I was extra excited about mercury glass this year.)
