Meet a Kitten: Jeanette

I could be biased, but I believe that of all the things that make our line unique, the ultimate factor is that it is made right here in our Brooklyn studio by an awesome set of local New York women. Did you ever wonder what went into making the elegant heart ring in your ring stack? New York City born and raised musician Jeanette knows because she just so happens to be one of the eighteen jewelers working out of our Williamsburg studio.

Jeanette and I spent Wednesday afternoon on a sunny bench outside of our favorite taco joint, La Superior. She brought along one of her most treasured items, an acoustic Takamine with photos of her mother pasted on the back, where they're close to her heart as she plays.

Have you ever called Catbird and heard a cheerful voice greet you on the other end? Or perhaps you had a question about a rad ring, so you shot an email over to us and received a friendly reply. Well, chances are you spoke with our E-Commerce Manager, Anna.

In the first edition of Meet a Kitten, we take a stroll around the neighborhood with Anna (and her ever-rambunctious chocolate lab Willy) to learn a bit more about her. Ya know, aside from her being a walking encyclopedia of all things Catbird, and all.

It's not my favorite book, but it might be my favorite cover.
Lifted from Rachel, our store manager's, new and quite charming blog.

Lounging, Sienna-style

The Catbird holiday party was last night and we all are feeling pretty groggy this morning afternoon. I would like to take a cue from the lovely Sienna Miller - draped in Catbird jewels and the most amazing loungewear.

Oh, You Fabulous Stain! Today's Music Inspiration

It's come to my attention that I'm not the only bird around here harboring a giant rock n' roll crush on these gals. If you've never seen the cult film, Ladies and Gentleman, The Fabulous Stains, you may be missing a piece of your punk rock soul.

Check out teenage Diane Lane and Laura Dern in all their angsty 80's glory below:

Outtakes: On Set with Mr. Bonki

We had a VIF (Very Important Feline, bien sûr) visitor in our studio the other day. Mr. Bonki, a 9 week old Scottish Fold kitten with a penchant for playing soccer with piles of tiny gold rings, was kind enough to let us snap some (um, a few hundred) photos of him. Thank you, Mr. Bonki, for being a totally adorable delight that left us all weak in the knees, and thank you to your moms, Alyse and Karolina, for letting you come play with us. We love you, Mr. Bonki.

Lights, Camera, Catbird!

Well, I've said it before and now I will most certainly say it again our bird, Ashley Lyn Clinton, can do it all which is why it was absolutely no surprise to us that she was asked to star as one half of an old school BFF pair for the new The Sea and Cake music video. The video has a perfect Wes Anderson vibe while also portraying a real life Virgin Suicides tale and it made us birds smile all the way through.

From one bird to another, Ash, you take the cake as the cutest vintage-esque music video babe.
xx coco.

Dear Patti,

Can I borrow your hair? But, you know, for keeps.
Thanks,
Rony

Lunch Lady: Alright Alright Alright!

Even the Cookie Monster is eating vegetables - so I guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and stop having French Fries with every meal. Consider this my Day 1 of trying to eat like a semi-adult, kind of.

I absolutely had leftover mac n' cheese for breakfast BUT for lunch I did a 180 and downed the most amazing smoothie I've ever had in my entire life. For Real. It's the #11 at a magical little place called Tiny Empire and I think they are my favorite new neighbors <3

The smoothie I ordered is made of this stuff --> Kale, Coconut Water, Coconut Meat, Spirulina, Raw Cacao & Dates. It tasted like I was eating a salad and drinking a milkshake at the same time- something I just realized I'm very into. Their Kale Chips I purchased and tried to share were pretty amazing but I kind of ate them all in a heartbeat so they missed out on picture day. Also- alongside they're pre-made juices are containers of Blue Bottle Coffee so you can be healthy and hopped up aaaaall at the same time.

in conclusion-

Dear Tiny Empire,
Thanks for the wake-up call

AAAAAND

While we're on the subject of letting mother nature take the lead- a few of our Honorary Catbirdettes (and the hottest sister babes you'll ever lay your little eyes on) decided to impress the shit out of everyone and open up a Raw Juice Company of their own. The DROUGHT storefront is located in Plymouth, MI- a little suburb of Detroit and filled to the brim with delicious stuff to battle your bad habits. You can order their raw cold-pressed juice via their website for delivery within the Metro-Detroit area or swing by during store hours.

So if you find yourself in Motor City, go see our best ladies juicing in their Twisted Stackers and First Knuckle Rings

P.S. James Sisters, if you're reading this- NY can't wait to take you in its lovin' arms.

<3 Ash

Bonus. Because I feel like it.
